COVID-19 surge: Nigeria records 27 deaths, 964 new cases across 19 states, FCT

Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and 18 other states reported 964 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, according to figures released on Sunday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

The health agency also reported 27 COVID-19 related deaths. 

The NCDC disclosed this on its official website on Sunday.

According to the agency, the 964 new cases and 27 deaths were recorded from the FCT and 19 other states.

Lagos recorded the highest number of new infections with 456 cases, Ondo – 180, Edo – 66, Rivers – 62, Niger – 26, Akwa Ibom – 25, Ekiti – 22, Kwara – 22, Oyo – 22, Kaduna – 17, Delta – 14, Benue – 12, Gombe – 9, Plateau – 9, FCT – 8, Jigawa – 5, Ogun – 4, Bayelsa – 2, Nasarawa – 2 and Bauchi – 1

The health agency said the 964 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 195, 052.

However, 182,463 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.

With 27 COVID-19 related deaths reported, the death toll from the virus has risen to 2,522 NCDC said.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
