Operatives of Delta State Police Command have recorded a major success in their fight against crimes and criminality in the state as they smashed a four-man gang of suspected armed robbers, neutralising two of them.

The feat was recorded on August 28, 2021, following a tip off.

At about 1730hrs that evening, the Divisional patrol team from Otu-Jeremi Police Station, while on stop and search duty along Egbo/Otokutu Road, received information that four suspected armed robbers who had earlier snatched two vehicles, a gold coloured Toyota Camry with Reg. no.RSH 291 AW and a custom coloured Lexus 350 jeep with Reg. No. WWR 737 KL, had abandoned the vehicles at Otokutu community due to suspected mechanical faults and were escaping in a tricycle.

Consequently, the police operatives swung into action and chased the hoodlums who, on sighting the police team opened fire on them.

The PUNCH Metro gathered that the policemen fired back at the suspected armed robbers and in the ensuing gun battle, the hoodlums were forced to abandon the tricycle.

Two of the hoodlums escaped and ran into the nearby bush while two others were fatally wounded and found in the tricycle with gun shot injuries.

Exhibits recovered from the tricycle included one Ak47 rifle, an empty magazine, a cash sum of N200,000 and gold jewelries.

The suspects who sustained gunshot injuries were rushed to the hospital where they gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

The DPO Otu-jeremi Division again led a combined team of police/vigilante to further comb the bush for the possible arrest of the other fleeing members of the gang but in the process recovered another AK47 rifle with breach number NK344397 with two magazines and three live ammunition.

Police sources said that manhunt for the other members of the gang was ongoing.

In another development, the State Command’s Crack squad raided criminal hideouts in Ozoro community where two suspects namely Cyril Enishoke (20) and Oghogho Joseph (32) were arrested with large quantity of substance suspected to be Indian hemp recovered from them.
Investigation is ongoing.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, DSP Bright Edafe attributed the efforts of the operatives to “proactive strategies put in place by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali.”

He stated that “the Commissioner of Police had also assured Deltans that the Command will do all it takes to see that the security will continue to improve and that the Command will sustain this tempo with a view to seeing that criminally minded people do not find it easy in the state, and that the state will be too hot for them.”
