Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and 16 other states reported 590 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, according to the figures released on Saturday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
The NCDC also reported eight COVID-19 related deaths.
The health agency disclosed this on its official website on Saturday.
According to NCDC, the 590 new COVID-19 cases were recorded from the FCT, Lagos, and 16 other states.
Lagos with the highest numbers for new infections reported 308 new cases. New COVID-19 cases as reported by other states is as follows: Akwa Ibom -54, Katsina -40, Oyo -39, Rivers -26, Niger -23, Gombe -19, Ogun -16, Ekiti -15, FCT -10, Nasarawa -10, Delta 9, Bayelsa -5, Plateau -5, Imo -4, Ebonyi -3, Jigawa -3 while Kano reported just one new infection.
The health agency said the 590 new COVID-19 infections have brought the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 179, 472.
So far, 164, 979 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged in the country, the agency said.
With eight COVID-19 related deaths reported, the death toll from the virus on Friday rose to 2,149, NCDC said.
It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, had continued to coordinate the national response activities.
