Gombe State Government in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Goals, office in collaboration with Gombe State Government will work together to upgrade the Snakebite Hospital located in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe.

The upgrade is intended to turn the hospital into research, anti-venom production, and treatment centre.

The facility receives patients from across the North East states, other regions of the nation, and even from outside of the country. Patients come to the hospital from Cameroon.

A vial of anti snakebite ranges from N30,000 to N40,000, according to findings by PUNCH HealthWise.

Speaking with our correspondent during the announcement of the collaboration, Idris Bawa, leader of the delegation, who was accompanied by the Director, Hospital Services of the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Mahdi, said that the collaboration for the hospital upgrade would help reduce the stress of indigent clients who patronise the facility.

He said, “This collaboration is based on invitation by the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Sustainable Development Goals on the need for the hospital upgrade to reduce the suffering of people.

“This is occasioned by the devastating impact of snakebite which includes loss of work hours, drain on the economy as well related health challenges associated with snakebite.”

According to Bawa, the requirements needed for the upgrade of the hospital would include additional laboratories, staff quarters, wards solar power, ambulances and critical equipment. Work would begin as soon as approval is obtained for the upgrade, he said.

Also speaking, Senior Special Assistant to Governor on the Sustainable Development Goals Alhaji Bashir Tukur said the upgrade of the Snakebite Hospital in Kaltungo would certainly bring succor to the people, noting that patients are being brought to the hospital from eight states for the treatment of snakebites.
